Not so pretty in pink. In a demand for equality in a "solution" for sexual dysfunction in women, the
FDA just approved a highly questionable drug called
ADDYI (flibanserin).
You're in luck only if you are: - pre -menopausal (menopausal or post-menopausal women need not apply)
- do NOT wish to drink alcohol--EVER
- NOT on the pill, NOT taking antidepressants, NOT taking some common antacids and many more prescription drugs
- happy to look forward to a possibility of only 1 day a month increased sexual desire.
In fact, this newly dubbed
women's Viagara had been repeatedly rejected by the FDA--with good reason.
In the trials, many women experienced these ommon side effects (rxlist.com):
- Dizziness
- nausea
- sleepiness
- fatigue
- dry mouth
Furthermore, in clinical trials, the drug
only worked for about 10 percent of the womenwho tried it, but
15 percent had to quit because of side effects above and even dangerously low blood pressure and fainting. An animal study even linked ADDYI to
breast tumors. It seems that once a
political play for women's equality began to pick up steam, there was more pressure to approve this drug after two decided FDA rejections in 2010 and 2013. Don't get me wrong, as a woman, I
understand the desire to find solutions to these very real symptoms that do exist and see them in my practice. Many low libido symptoms (both men and women) may be attributed to
low hormone production. Often times, cleaning up the gut and liver and strengthening the adrenals and thyroid can work wonders in
proper hormone balance. Is this pink pill still the best option for you?
